Deer Tick - “Baltimore Blues No. 1”

Deer Tick’s music stupefies, rattles, and dazzles (kudos to Thesaurus.com for those verbs).

If you dislike this song, consider our friendship a misjudgment on my part.

    N.A.S.A. - “Whachadoin?”

    North

    America

    South

    America

Take down the border control. No more checking passports. North America and South America are unified with rhythm - the universal common ground between cultures.

L.A. producer Squeak E. Clean and Brazilian DJ Zegon transcend genre definitions, ignore preconceptions, and alter dimensionality. With some help from Spank Rock, M.I.A., Santogold & Nick Zinner, “Whachadoin?” expresses pleasant nuisance. In my opinion, the production functions well with dysfunctional layers of sound. And ultimately, this funky style sneaks into our perception of perfection.

    BOOM!

  4. Simply amazing.

  5. MoBoogie

State Radio - “Fall of the American Empire”

Too much cramming for finals for a witty/insightful description… The acoustic performance is from a MoBoogie Loft Session. State Radio has got some amazing music out there, this being a prime example. In the studio or live, Chad Stokes has a phenomenal grasp on what sounds good. Ok bye!

  7. Jack White has peeled off his Stripes and gone solo. To no surprise, Blunderbuss (released April 23) sticks to humble, garage-rock roots. It uplifts us with intensity and grounds us with gravity. It does what Jack White does best - harasses what is standard. He takes rock, in whatever form people see it, and sticks that concept in his rock tumbler. A shiny, smooth, never-before-seen idea hatches. Whether he’s a member of The Raconteurs or The Dead Weather, or a solo act as we see here, White deserves the light of 21st century revolutionary.

In “Love Interruption” specifically, White collaborates with Nashville singer, Ruby Amanfu.

MuteMath - “Odd Soul” (Live From Studio Paradiso)

“Odd Soul” intertwines funk, soul, jazz and blues into alternative rock, thus dispensing the rich scent of MuteMath’s homeland. New Orleans, LA has given rise to many greats: Louis Armstrong, Master P, Dave Bartholomew, Goatwhore, in the departments of jazz, hip-hop, blues and heavy metal.

For me, MuteMath grills the spices of NOLA to perfection. With a variety of songs ranging from a soft, intimate, “You Are Mine“ to the hard knock, “Typical,” a multidimensional sound is present. If you’re a fan of today’s alt rock, MuteMath is in your iTunes library.

  9. Jimmy Cliff @ Coachella 2012. At year 64, the legend still fux with falsetto. At year 64, the legend has an Adam’s apple as ripe as a pubescent. Nothing is fading, especially his charisma - I can see clearly now why Jimmy will live to be 300 (fingers crossed).

  10. Anthony “Tony” Simon (he’s not my uncle) (but I call him that anyways) IS Blockhead. In short, he’s a kick-ass music producer.

“The Music Scene” is an automatic head-nodder. Give it a boatload of mind-altering visuals, you have this. Vimeo makes it even clearer - clearer in the blurriest sense imaginable.

    Do you D.A.R.E. to watch?

Azealia Banks & Lunice - “Runnin”

In 2011, Nicki Minaj and Lil’ Kim tied the knot. The wedding was great. The cake was great. Everyone had a brilliant time.

Nine months and six days later, their first child bursted out busting rhymes faster than Nicki; dirtier than Kim. And so without hesitation, the baby was to be named Azealia Banks.

Though only a few days out of the womb, Azealia is proving to be a rapid-fire-spitting-dragon of vulgarity unlike anything heard before.

Squeeze those precious little cheeks and cuddle with this cute little lullaby.

This Echo Mountain Recording is from March 27, 2012. Find more like this from the Daytrotter live sessions.

A brilliant recording by Megafaun. Should you decide to listen, you will sink into your seat. Your sturdy bones will become brittle. Shivers will stun your core, allowing only for the prickliest goosebumps. This natural high will knock your stability, setting you back to a minimal form.

Seems like something undesirable, yet the compression into dust will fasten your sanity to the ground. In the end, you’ll love the mellow experience.

The Avett Brothers - “I and Love and You”

It’s that Southern folk rock you’ve been craving. Ok… it’s that Southern folk rock I’ve been craving. But how can you resist? Here’s a song that has a sinless sound. A sinless sound, a pure groundwork…it’s nothing but two brothers with a guitar and a banjo.

If you don’t like this song, you don’t like breathing air. If you are a newcomer to The Avett Brothers, seek out the live stuff (Live, Volume 3). It’ll put you in a good place.
